Job Summary
The Juvenile Detention Center seeks a male-designated Detention Youth Care Specialist (DYCS) to provide essential support for delinquent youth housed in County detention facilities. Responsibilities include ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of residents, supervising activities, and offering guidance in a structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise residents during daily activities, hygiene routines, and recreational/social activities.
- Conduct security checks and maintain adherence to facility rules.
- Provide counseling and assist residents in resolving personal issues and building self-esteem.
- Physically restrain residents when necessary to ensure safety.
- Escort residents to appointments with school staff, medical personnel, or legal representatives.
- Write detailed behavior logs, incident reports, and memos for staff and supervisors.
- Plan and oversee group and individual recreational activities.
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas, sanitize resident rooms, and handle other cleaning tasks as required.
- Facilitate religious services and visitation activities.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in a juvenile court or childcare facility preferred.
- Completion of 30 semester hours of college or equivalent quarter hours may substitute for experience, per state requirements.
Special Requirements:
- Valid Michigan driver’s license.
- CPR & First Aid Certification (to be obtained within six months of hire).
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (to be completed upon hire).
