Position: Branch Leader I
Employment Status: Exempt
Reports to: Branch Operations Director
Position Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to assist Members First Credit Union to deliver on its mission: To encourage a better tomorrow. Essential Duties
- Lead the team to maximize productivity, efficiency, and potential through hiring, onboarding, development plans, goal setting, monitoring performance, coaching, training, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Appraise performance and recommend compensation, promotions, and discipline, including terminations when appropriate.
- Oversee and maintain visual standards for branch facilities and equipment, collaborating with the Facilities/Marketing team as needed.
- Be available to work Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., with Saturday coverage and some outside hours for meetings and trainings. Some travel, including overnight stays, may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed in this position. Additional duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
- Conduct orientation for new employees and ensure staff is trained in all branch procedures, products, services, and promotions.
- Collaborate with the Branch Operations Director and HR for hiring, employee development, and performance management.
- Develop and manage the branch budget, ensuring expenditures remain within limits.
- Monitor industry trends to ensure competitiveness in products, services, and processes.
- Ensure members' requests and complaints are promptly addressed and resolved.
- Investigate and resolve member complaints involving fees, deposit servicing, and other issues.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on all branch software.
- Engage in process improvements and update branch procedures and policies in collaboration with Branch Operation Specialists.
- Ensure daily branch transactions are balanced, maintaining individual accountability for cash handling.
Member Relationship Representative Duties
- Explain products and services to members, preparing and processing documentation for new accounts.
- Oversee the audit process for newly opened accounts.
- Prepare adverse action letters for denied products.
General Sales Expectations
- Use effective Sales Champion skills to build relationships with members.
- Offer products and services that meet members’ financial needs.
- Oversee onboarding processes to strengthen relationships with new members.
- Ensure members are fully served.
Other Responsibilities
- Answer phones and handle member inquiries.
- Process mail as required.
- Attend educational functions as required.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of all Credit Union products and services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to move or transport items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to remain stationary for 2-4 hours at a time.
Work Environment
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
- Routinely clean and disinfect workspaces, including teller stations, desks, and phones.
- Protect confidentiality by securing sensitive materials when away from the workstation.
Education and Experience
- Minimum one year of experience in management or a supervisory role.
- Minimum one year of banking or Credit Union experience.
- Three to five years of related experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to attain the Financial Counselor Certification (CCUFC) through CUNA within the first six months.
- Ability to attain the State of Michigan Credit Producers License within six months.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
- Required: 3-5 years of related experience, including one year in banking or Credit Union roles.
