POSITION OVERVIEW
Do you enjoy helping others? This Mental Healthcare Support Worker position allows you to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment assisting young adults with special needs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist patients with basic hygiene tasks (bathing, grooming, dressing).
- Support patients with meal preparation and feeding.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment (light cleaning and laundry).
Patient Engagement and Support:
- Develop and facilitate engaging activities such as board games, arts and crafts, walks, and light exercises.
- Promote independence by encouraging participation in daily tasks and routines.
- Monitor patient behavior and emotional well-being, reporting concerns promptly to housing managers or supervisors.
Health Monitoring and Documentation:
- Assist with medication reminders and ensure proper documentation.
- Observe and document changes in physical, emotional, or behavioral health.
- Keep accurate, up-to-date daily logs and incident reports.
Behavioral Support and Coaching:
- Provide a safe and calming presence for patients who may experience emotional challenges.
- Offer gentle coaching and problem-solving support to promote emotional regulation.
- Redirect patients toward positive activities and routines when necessary.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with housing managers, nurses, therapists, and other staff to ensure cohesive care.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss patient progress and share updates.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff to ensure clear understanding of care plans.
Safety and Crisis Management:
- Follow safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for all patients.
- Support patients during stressful or crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies or incidents, ensuring proper procedures are followed.
Additional Duties:
- Escort patients to and from appointments, activities, or community outings, when required.
- Assist with implementing therapeutic plans under the direction of clinical staff.
- Help set and achieve small daily goals to provide a sense of accomplishment for patients.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Excellent communication and bedside manners
- Compassionate, supportive, and patient-focused demeanor
- Ability to analyze basic health data and maintain confidentiality
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Experience in home health, hospitals, or clinical settings preferred
