SEMCO - Operations Technician II
Position Summary
SEMCO Energy is seeking an Operations Technician II for our Niles, MI team! Under supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Operations Technician II supports the Operations Department with a variety of both field duties and office duties relating to the installation, operation and maintenance of gas service lines, pipelines, gas regulator stations, and meter and storage fields within the assigned geographic area.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Support supervisors and business partners as needed for customer contacts, work planning and coordination across the operations disciplines.
Support sectionalizing and valve maintenance programs for transmission and distribution systems, including documentation, permits, PCP preparation, compliance, scheduling, and field locates.
Support instrumentation requirements including trouble shooting, annual maintenance, new installation coordination and planning.
Support the annual leak survey program adhering to Company / MPSC requirements.
Coordination of 3rd Party Pipeline Crossings, Damage Prevention, Quality Assurance and Contractor Intervention Requests.
Assist in other Operational Areas.
Reviews documentation related to essential functions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Support required MPSC Inspections as needed. Handles customer and contractor inquiries, complaints and problems with courtesy and professionalism.
Attends all regular and special meetings and training events as required by the department.
Open, update, and close job orders as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
Minimum high school diploma/GED required.
Associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
2+ years of experience in electrical or gas industry preferred.
Successful completion of Operator Qualification as required.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and represent the company professionally.
Working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications presently used by the Company. Ability to learn new systems or software packages as necessary.
Must maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers and management.
Must maintain and promote a safe environment for co-workers, customers and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.
Ability to adhere to Company policies and procedures related to the code of business ethics, compliance, responsible use of assets, and all applicable state and federal laws.

This position is based in Niles, MI.
This is a non-unionized position.
Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required, in addition to a background check.
