Position: Accountant III / Senior Accountant
Employment Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Controller
Position Overview

Essential Duties
- Support the Credit Union’s mission by providing exceptional service in every interaction.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of Accounting/Finance functions to provide backup support.
- Keep current with various accounting software programs.
- Attend educational functions as required.
- Work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Foster a positive work environment that supports empowerment.
- This role is hybrid or remote with flexibility to accommodate location changes as needed.
- Perform routine accounting tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Mentor and coach Accounting team members, supporting their development and displaying the Employee Value Proposition and core values.
- Use Virtual Collaboration Tools to facilitate teamwork and training.
- Create and post journal entries; reconcile General Ledger accounts.
- Assist the Controller with regulatory and financial reporting.
- Provide Accounts Payable support, including reviewing invoices, assigning General Ledger accounts, and preparing amortization schedules.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed by this position. Additional responsibilities may be assigned to meet business needs.
- Perform all accounting functions independently while providing leadership guidance to team members.
- Support and mentor the Accounting team alongside the Controller.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements in daily activities.
- Prepare technical accounting analyses and conclusions for review by the Controller and VP of Finance.
- Drive improvements in financial reporting and create efficiencies through tools like Excel.
- Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
- Participate actively in team meetings.
- Ensure accuracy in the general ledger system and daily balancing.
- Complete and file quarterly 5300 reports to the NCUA.
- Assist with annual tax filings, board reports, and committee reports.
- Provide ad hoc reporting and analysis to support organizational needs.
- Respond to auditor and examiner requests as needed.
- Advise branch and department managers on accounting entries and analysis.
- Recommend and develop process improvements to enhance productivity.
- Act as primary backup for the Controller.
- Ensure procedures are updated and maintain compliance with policies.

Education and Experience
- Five to eight years of relevant experience.
- A two-year Accounting-related degree, or equivalent certification or specialized training.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook.
- Preferred experience with host software (Symitar).
- Knowledge of GAAP and financial institution regulatory reporting requirements.
