Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a MDS Technician 1, located at the Bay City Factory, 2600 S. Euclid Ave., Bay City, MI 48706.
Job Summary:
MDS Technician 1 at Michigan Sugar Company’s Bay City Factory is responsible for the process and maintenance work. MDS Technician will work with a team in making the necessary adjustment to optimize the Chromatographic Separation Process, which takes molasses and separates it into two properties, upgrade, and betaine. The upgrade is then separated into extract and raffinate with the extract being refined into sugar.
This includes operating the control system, optimizing the separators, changing out pumps and valves, rebuilding pumps and valves, maintaining and adjusting pumps and valves, maintaining and flushing heat exchangers, changing and re-clothing filters, testing the brix and Ph levels, maintaining proper resin levels in cells, maintaining, and inspecting the separators, operating the softening system, creating, and completing work orders, document maintenance performed. They also must fully understand the mechanics, instruments, electronics, and the locations of the equipment and be able to maintain and troubleshoot problems.
Additional responsibilities include daily cleaning and preventative maintenance of all equipment and the workplace, have strong organization skills, and track multiple equipment settings to optimize process.
The MDS Technician 1 is to call on the E&I Technician for support with maintenance and repairs to the equipment.
The MDS Technician 1 will use and care for the equipment, components & tools while running and maintaining it and must be able to work independently with minimal direction and guidance.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Operating and optimizing the Chromatographic Separation Process
- Rebuilding pumps and valves
- Maintaining and adjusting pumps and valves
- Maintaining and flushing heat exchangers
- Changing and re-clothing filters
- Maintaining all separators
- Operating the softening system
- Completing work orders
- Complete KPI’s and lost time reports
- Documenting performed maintenance
- Maintain equipment and troubleshoot problems
Position Qualifications:
- Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation training is a plus
- Mechanical experience
- Process experience
- Technical experience
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
