The Women’s Care Nurse Manager is responsible for daily operations at the site and directly supervises nurses and medical/clinical assistants. Responsible for direct and indirect patient care and functions that are part of clinical management. Ensures the appropriate and courteous treatment of patients at the site. Carries out all duties to maintain a properly functioning Center. Develops/implements performance standards and evaluates employees based on these standards. Supports and participates in a team-based approach to care in the Patient Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP) and participates in activities related to Quality Improvement. Understands how a specialty practice interacts with Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMH). Participates in activities related to Quality Improvement.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Maintains responsibility for training and supervision of site medical/clinical assistants and nurses. Responsible for the hiring of site medical/clinical assistants and nurses. Coordinates with the Director of Clinical Training & Development and the Director of Patient Support Services for the orientation of site staff. Conducts Career Development Reviews for assigned staff in a timely manner. Schedules staff, covers absences, and coordinates time off requests for support and provider staff. Completes payroll submission.
- Orients new residents/medical students to the GLBHC organization. Completes their evaluations as needed. Organizes multiple students’ schedules from contractual providers. Attends meetings with contractual staff and community providers/groups.
- Ensures that patient care, obstetric intakes, antepartum testing, and patient triage calls are managed per GLBHC protocols/guidelines.
- Coordinates daily operations and activities at the site. Collaborates with the Women’s Care Schedule Coordinator to maintain the site provider schedule and ensures accuracy of the schedule in the electronic medical record (EMR). Collaborates with the Women’s Care Call Center/Front Desk Coordinator to monitor patient flow and patient satisfaction. Actively pursues a positive image for the Center at all times. Serves as a liaison and communicates effectively with patients, providers, staff, other GLBHC sites/departments and outside entities. Monitors cleanliness of Center.
- Responsible for implementation of Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives and activities along with the Director of Women’s Health. Compiles and submits QI monitoring/Outcome Improvement Plans and other reports as requested.
- Ensures appropriate utilization of electronic medical records by providers and support staff. Is considered a “super user” of EMR at site. Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Maintains all medical supplies in coordination with GLBHC purchasing department and Warehouse. Assesses equipment needs and ensures equipment is operational. Maintains stock medication and vaccine inventory appropriately. Monitors administration of medications and vaccines to ensure compliance with medication administration and immunization protocols.
- Conducts site meetings and implements changes for clinic improvement along with the Director of Women’s Health.
- Serves as the “employee health nurse” to maintain employee health records and ensures all employees at the center are up to date on immunizations and screenings per Employee Health Protocol. Consults Corporate Immunization Coordinator as needed.
- Collaborates with Director of Women's Health, Surgery Scheduler and Medical Billing Clerk to monitor for and capture billable professional services provided at the hospital. Follows goals set by administration for productivity and financial sustainability of providers.
MARGINAL JOB DUTIES
- Fills in for medical/clinical assistant and nursing staff as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Women’s Health.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with BSN preferred. In lieu of BSN, an RN with 3 years of OB experience accepted.
- Licensure: Registered Nurse license by the State of Michigan.
- Experience: Experience in an administrative or supervisory role preferred.
- Skills: Ability to prepare and maintain accurate documentation. Bilingual
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, including patients, providers and referral sources.
- Physical Effort: Medium
- Hours of Work: Full-time; Flexible and varied.
- Travel: Minimal local travel required. Some out of service area travel may be required for conferences and seminars. Reimbursement in accordance with GLBHC travel policy.
