Whiteside Abstract & Title is looking for a researcher who is detail oriented. Using public records including deeds, easements and titles, you will determine the rightful owner of property. This requires searching previous sales records, property titles, and official maps.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Gathers prior work for new orders, and title search orders.
- Searches for mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, death certificates, deeds, and other vital documents to determine ownership, legal restrictions and to verify legal description of property.
- Searches public record to provide title department with status of title/abstracts.
- Provide visual sketches and drawings of metes and bounds legal descriptions.
- Processes post-closing title audits to assist Title Department in producing final title policies.
- Uses alphabetical and numerical systems to organize paper and electronic records documents.
- Processes recorded documents into title program.
Experience
Background in real estate, banking, or legal description knowledge is preferred.
Education
High school diploma or GED is required.
Interpersonal Skills
Courtesy dealing with others. Work involves minimal contacts, usually within the organization or Register of Deeds. Contact usually involves routine, time-sensitive issues.
Other Skills
- Must pay great attention to detail.
- Work and travel independently.
- Must work independently and efficiently on time-sensitive files.
- Must have data entry and Microsoft experience.
- Must be a State of Michigan Notary.
