Position Summary
This is a full-time, end-dated position in the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University based in East Lansing, MI. The Szendrei lab (
https://vegetable.ent.msu.edu) is looking for a motivated person whose primary duty will be coordinating and managing experiments to develop pest management strategies. Responsibilities include conducting laboratory and field experiments, assisting in planning and designing experiments, analyzing data, and delivering extension materials. This person will report to Dr. Szendrei and will frequently communicate with other research collaborators. The incumbent will also be expected to contribute to social media presence, travel to meetings and communicate with stakeholders.
The position requires a valid driver's license. In-state and out-of-state travel will be required. Position is funded for one year from the date of hire, with possible extension based on availability of funding.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in entomology, biological or agricultural science discipline or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in biological or agricultural research; proficiency with word processing, presentation, and data entry and analysis software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
B.S. degree in entomology, agronomy or related field. Familiarity with potato pest management; experience writing research reports, extension bulletins and assisting in grant writing; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team as well as an individual; outstanding attention to detail time management and multitasking skills to meet deadlines; experience with field research; and experience managing employees are preferred.
The position requires a valid driver's license.
