Summary of Position: | Full-time, 12-month tenure-track faculty position. Responsible for teaching in laboratory, classroom, and clinic. The candidate will be expected to develop in patient care, teaching/advising, scholarly/professional activities, and service. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's campuses. The candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. The anticipated start date of this position is December 2024 at the earliest and August 2025 at the latest. However, these are estimated dates and can be revised if needed. | |

Required Education: | At the time of appointment, the applicant must hold the Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree and must either have completed an accredited optometric residency or have an equivalent degree or experience in patient care. | |
Required Work Experience: | At least one year of residency experience or commensurate work/professional experience. Residency experience in specialty contact lens and anterior segment disease is preferred. | |
Required Licenses and Certifications: | At the time of appointment, the applicant must have or be eligible for a Michigan optometry license with DPA and TPA certifications for appointment to the college's clinical staff. | |

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: | The applicant should demonstrate experience and a strong level of interest in clinical instruction in specialty contact lens fitting and cornea/anterior segment disease. It is also preferred that the candidate have experience working within a team-teaching environment and demonstrate the ability to initiate and complete scholarly/professional activities.
An individual applying for Associate Professor status must demonstrate an academic record appropriate for a tenure appointment. | |
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: | Faculty members have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, clinical orientation of students, participating in university and professional committees, keeping posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participating in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment or asynchronously, and/or take after-hours clinical calls. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. Support, promote, and develop University student enrollment and retention initiatives. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members. | |
