Orthotic Fitters provide patient care through the provision and adjustment of off the shelf and pre-fabricated orthoses. They monitor the patients over time and make any necessary changes to the devices to keep them in good condition.
The Orthotic Fitter is specifically trained and qualified to participate in the fitting and delivery of prefabricated orthotic devices and/or soft goods related to a patient's needs, as indicated by acertified orthotist. .
A Orthotic Fitter is competent to practice orthotics within a scope of practice that is specific to fitting certain prefabricated and off-the-shelf orthoses that do not require more than minor modification.
*Indirect Supervision: This level of supervision does not require the supervising credentialed individual to be on site however they must be available for consultation throughout the patient care process. The supervisor must review the results of care and the documentation of the services rendered by the supervised individual and is responsible for countersigning within 15 days all entries in the patient's clinical record.
Your Impact
This position's responsibilities vary based on the operational needs and size of the Hanger Clinic, and in accordance with state and local regulations. Key duties may include some or all of the following:
Clinical Collaboration:
Collaborate with orthotic practitioners to evaluate and analyze patients' orthotic needs.
Examine and assess patients' conditions related to disease and functional impairment.
Perform fittings and execute minor modifications as necessary.
Evaluate orthotic devices on patients, ensuring proper fit, functionality, medical efficacy, and quality.
Instruct patients on the use and care of orthopedic devices.
Identify and resolve any issues to ensure patient satisfaction with provided devices.
Patient Care and Documentation:
Provide detailed clinical notes for patient records.
Assist administrative staff with reimbursement activities.
Follow up with patients and physicians to monitor progress and address concerns.
Offer in-service training to physicians and allied healthcare professionals.
Support other clinical staff as needed.
Direct Patient Assistance:
Assist practitioners with patient care under direct supervision.
Prepare rooms and patients for treatment, including making and modifying molds.
Perform technical fabrication and complete administrative tasks.
Accurately document all patient care provided.
Fit and adjust soft good items for patients.
Provide patient follow-up for selected orthotic and prosthetic cases under the direction of a supervising certified clinician.
Operational Tasks:
Handle shipping, receiving, inventory monitoring, and other clerical tasks.
Contact vendors to order necessary prosthetic and orthotic materials.
Ensure all patient procedures align with the certifying clinician's directives.
Additional Responsibilities
Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
Adhere to all safety regulations, including compliance with Medicare, OSHA, and bloodborne pathogen standards.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Employee must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver's license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.
Preferred Experience
Allied Health Professionals (PTA, OTA, Athletic trainer, etc.)
If the Orthotic Fitter holds a recognized license or certification in a related allied health profession (e.g., Physical Therapist/PTA, Occupational Therapist/OTA, Athletic Trainer, etc.), they may be supervised under indirect supervision.
