Summary
In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan’s core purpose and core values, the Manager, Donation Support, oversees the Donation Support Specialists (DSS), monitors statewide approach and authorization practices, and assists with the development and implementation of department goals and objectives.
Duties & Responsibilities
The following job duties and responsibilities are stated in broad terms and not intended to be inclusive. Those in bold are essential duties of the position:
- Manage the implementation of policies and guidelines within the donation support team for obtaining authorization for donation.
- Ensure donation support staff are equipped to make connections with families and guide them to providing authorization for donation through instruction, resources, and coaching.
- Provide technical assistance with on-call consultation as needed.
- Develop comprehensive and ongoing training programs in collaboration with educators that ensure all regulatory requirements are met and maximize the potential for organ and tissue donation authorization.
- Participate in both non-donor case reviews and case reviews to identify opportunities to improvement and drive changes.
- Oversee initial donor referral responses and family approaches for donation.
- Respond to potential donor referrals for evaluation of clinical staff performance and planning workflow.
- Participate in continuing education and required trainings as it relates to improving authorization and organizational requirements for organ and tissue donation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee the day-to-day work of assigned direct reports, set and communicate clear expectations, and provide coaching/guidance as necessary.
- Provide ongoing formal and informal performance feedback, conducting performance reviews and/or corrective action discussions as necessary.
- Support staff in setting performance goals and in furthering their professional development.
- Support and contribute to the achievement of organizational and department goals.
- Support the bi-directional communication of organizational and department messaging between leadership and staff.
- Promote a healthy and safe work environment.
- Manage other tasks required of supervisors such as time and attendance, staff change requests, and reporting.
Education and/or Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 hospital work experience or a combination of more than 7-10 years of education and hospital work experience or OPO experience.
- Work experience with emphasis in; Pastoral and/or Spiritual Care, Social Work, Psychology, Grief and/or Crisis Management Counseling or 3-5 years of organ donation related experience.
- At least two years of experience in management or leadership role (project, team, workgroup).
Preferred
- Master’s degree with leadership experience.
- Prior experience in a healthcare organization, transplant center, or organ/tissue procurement organization.
