FACILITIES MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities Management, the Facilities Maintenance Technician provides support and assistance to the Director of Facilities Management performing laborer, general maintenance and service work for Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) facilities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs preventative maintenance on Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing building equipment.
- Troubleshoots and repairs defective or inoperative Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing building equipment.
- Performs general maintenance and repairs of any miscellaneous equipment.
- Performs basic carpentry including but not limited to: installing drywall and flooring, painting and other related carpentry tasks.
- Operates the building fire suppression system.
- Operates the building management control system as required.
- Assists with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
- Washes walls and equipment.
- Uses ladders to complete required work assignments.
- Performs cleaning of DWIHN buildings.
- Removes snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs in areas within sixteen feet of buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.
- Moves furniture, equipment, supplies and tools.
- Washes accessible interior and exterior windows.
- Performs Onsite/Offsite material deliveries.
- Assists with Vehicle Fleet Maintenance.
- Tracks and orders maintenance supplies.
- Maintains landscape: waters, cuts and trims shrubs and grass.
- Maintains outside walk areas, including salting, sweeping debris and washing walkways.
- Attend safety and other related meetings.
- Takes classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, First Aid, CPR, and working relationships.
- Maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
- Cleans, dusts, and wipes furniture; sweeps, mops, or vacuums floors; empties and cleans wastebaskets, and trash containers; replaces light bulbs; refills restroom dispensers.
- Cleans rags and dust mops.
- Removes recycling materials.
- Assists with the plans for fire evacuation and disaster response.
- Assists with the coordination of the environmental health and safety program.
- Assists with the hazardous waste disposal programs.
- Assists with the paper recycling program.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) years of full-time paid experience working as a Laborer, Service Worker, Construction Worker, Maintenance Worker or performing work in the skilled trades.
REQUIRED LICENSE(S).
A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions on facility grounds. This employee is also exposed to a work environment that may be extremely noisy.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The employee must frequently lift or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Travel within Wayne County and the surrounding counties is expected for this position.
This position requires occasional evening, weekend, holiday, and on call work assignments.
