COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

With this mission, we are looking for a compassionate individual for our Communication Specialist. The Communications Specialist is responsible for executing successful marketing strategies and developing a long-term source of supplemental funding through grants, gifts, and fundraising. Duties include development of marketing and promotional materials, promoting the mission of the organization, fund development, analysis of fundraising events, and developing leads. The successful candidate will play an integral role in building and engaging the organization’s donor base and creating effective strategies to promote the awareness and long-term growth of our agency. This position is responsible for communication of special events to the community and updating the organization’s website and social media pages.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assure that a marketing plan for the organization is developed and implemented. Assure development and maintenance of a database for marketing and public relations purposes.
- Assure development and production of informational materials including brochures, annual report, web site and related communication tools for the organization.
- Interact with a range of media sources to assure that the public is aware of the mission of the organization and that events are properly promoted.
- Assure coordination of special events for the organization, including the Annual Night of Celebration, Employee Recognition Event, Walk and Roll, fundraisers and other events as directed.
- Participate in community relations events, professionally representing the organization.
- Serve as liaison to the Board of Directors’ Marketing Committee.
- Manage all social media accounts.
- Assure the agency’s website is current, accessible, and consistent with a positive image of the agency and of persons served.
- Develop and execute MMI’s annual fundraising plan. Assure development and maintenance of a database for donors and assure each gift is acknowledged in a timely manner.
- Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors.
- Create and execute a strategy for a large, sustained base of annual individual donors.
- Promote a positive public image of the company through public information activities, community involvement, and responsible interaction with community leaders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, advertising or a related field. Three years experience in a marketing and/or fundraising role may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Able to communicate effectively with the business community, stakeholders, funding sources, and Board of Directors. Professional demeanor.
- Effective time management skills and the ability to multitask. Strong copywriting skills. Attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three plus years experience in a marketing role.
- Proficiency with web analysis tools, databases, and/or software used to develop marketing materials.
- Experience with digital marketing forms such as social media marketing and content marketing.
Position Details:
Pay: Starting at hourly. $17.30-$19.20, based on experience and qualifications.
Hours: Subject to flexibility to meet the needs of the position, including events and needs of persons served, but typically Monday - Friday day shift.
Location: Main office is Mt Pleasant, but occasional travel to remote locations throughout our service areas including but not limited to Isabella, Clare, and Montcalm counties.
