Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will work in shop and travel to job sites to ensure the repair and maintenance of equipment. Equipment will include company vehicles, heavy machinery, and smaller equipment. Working with the Shop Manager and other team members, this is a crucial part of making sure Fessler & Bowman’s business runs smoothly. Five Key Roles of the Heavy Equipment Mechanic:
- Ensure all equipment is maintained through repair and preventative care
- Troubleshoots various systems including electrical, drive train, HVAC, brake, engine and suspension
- Identifies needed repairs and performs corrective actions
- Maintains repair order write-ups to include detailed repair description, cause of failure and correction/repair used
- Obtaining and tracking PO #’s for purchases
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Uses computerized diagnostic equipment to detect and isolate faults
- Interprets test results and determines the most efficient repair procedure
- Communicates with and provides Shop Manager with accurate and detailed repair information; consulting with other mechanics on smaller jobs
- Obtains supervisor permission to complete diagnosed repairs and/or add additional repairs
- Adjusting equipment, replacing faulty parts and repairing damaged equipment parts
- Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments like winches, blades, and side booms
- Performing major repair work when necessary
- Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management
- Inspecting trucks, cranes, bulldozers, excavators and other heavy equipment for proper performance
- Other relevant tasks as assigned
Education, Experience & Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 2 years of mechanic experience
- Valid Drivers License with clean driving record
- CDL Class A required
Travel:
Travel is required for this position and is under 25%. Travel expenses will be accommodated for by Fessler & Bowman
Work Environment:
As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be subject to various work environments. Environments include but are not limited to the following: high/low temperatures, areas close to traffic, loud and frequent noises, confined spaces, heights, indoor/outdoor settings.
