Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Mechanic, located at the Bay City Factory.
Job Summary:
The Mechanic is responsible for maintenance and repair of all factory machinery, sharpening of knives, inventory of complete knife block assemblies and knife block changes in the Slicers. The employee is expected to follow all guidelines while continuously maintaining quality and demand.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Sharpening knives to specific tolerances with the Automatic Sharpening Machine (MSA).
- Cleaning and sorting knives both manually and with the Automatic RSA machine.
- Mechanics will also provide support to the maintenance crews and various skilled trade technicians in performing maintenance and repairs to equipment throughout the factory.
- Changing of knife blocks in the Slicers as required.
- Identify component defects in each step, isolate and inform of any problems.
- Re-build and assemble machines or mechanical equipment
- Inspect and diagnose machines and equipment for functionality issues.
- Keep logs of work and report on issues.
- Measure and determine size and quantity of materials & manage inventories.
- Use various technical tools and measuring devices such as calipers and gages.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment problems.
- Understands basic mathematical calculations
Position Qualifications:
- Millwrights certification or equivalent
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of industrial mechanic work
- Preferred Knowledge of Putsch Slicers
- Ability to navigate through computers and equipment PLC’s to operate machinery
