The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has two openings for Water Production Helper, in Lansing, MI, as part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFL-CIO, Local Union 352.
Position Summary:
Performs all production duties in Water Production plant as assigned. Must learn duties of Water Station A Operator as part of a progression system to prepare for next available opening in the WSAO operator ranks. (Fully qualified WPH’s are a part of a progression system to fill open WSAO Operator positions).
Essential Functions:
- Unloads all Water Production chemicals using blowers, exhausters, pumps, valving and compressors.
- Maintains chemical inventory records clearly and legibly.
- Communicates by radio with trucks and plant personnel.
- Cleans Water Production plant facilities including restrooms, offices, remote facilities and plant(s), and grounds by using various cleaning supplies and floor buffers.
- Monitors equipment and takes readings as appropriate.
- Investigates equipment problems, possibly requiring use of BWL vehicle to travel to trouble spots on all shifts.
- Uses small hand tools.
- Unloads, stocks and distributes materials. May be required to work different shifts including weekends and holidays.
- Required to follow BWL Safety Manual rules and wear required personal protective equipment.
- Attends training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by Supervisor, BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHA.
- Other duties as assigned.
