These are full-time, temporary positions that move among multiple work sites in Oceana and Mason Counties.
Duration of job is 05/08/2015 - 10/31/2015. Must be available to work for the entire period.
Workers will hand harvest asparagus, cherries, zucchini, sweet corn, peaches, hard squash, pumpkins/gourds and apples. Workers will move between rows to pick vegetables and fruit using their hands or hand clippers. Asparagus will be picked by riding on a specially-designed picking cart, with one of the pickers designated to steer the cart while picking. Workers will pick according to grade, color, shape, size and degree of maturity. Care must be exercised at all times to prevent bruising, denting, skinning, etc. of fruit and vegetables or breaking stems or branches. Depending on the crop, workers will lift and carry harvest bags or containers and hand stack the bags/containers or place the containers or its contents into larger bins. May sort vegetables or fruit according to specifications. May place picked vegetables or fruit on conveyor belt. May assemble cardboard, plastic or wire bound crates. May close containers, mark size on containers, and after packing, stack full containers according to size on pallets and secure pallets. Much of the picking may be done from an aluminum ladder up to 12 feet in height. Workers must safely set and use ladders.
Additional tasks may include general labor, hoeing and truck driving.
Required: Two (2) months of verifiable experience in vegetable hand harvest or tree fruit hand harvest.
Licensed housing will be provided without cost to those who cannot reasonably return to their permanent residence at the end of the work day.
All necessary tools, supplies or equipment will be provided by the employer at no cost to the worker.
This employer complies with Good Agricultural Practices, or GAP. Workers will be expected to abide by GAP rules in accordance with training provided.
