Systems Engineering Manager
Disher Design & Development is a full-service engineering services firm located in West Michigan and Ann Arbor, MI. Our engineering team is highly technical and diversified, serving in a variety of markets including automotive, office furniture, alternative energy, and medical. Our capabilities span from napkin through launch, providing numerous opportunities for us to partner with clients in product and process development, as well as in Talent identification and attraction.
We are currently partnering with a West Michigan customer in their search for a full time, direct hire Systems Engineering Manager in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Primary responsibilities for this position involve:
- Assist in setting the overall mechatronic development strategy for the company. Formulate strategies into specific product development activities that support the industry needs for Requirements Management and Functional Safety.
- Work to support a disciplined and harmonized approach to executing the needs for requirements management and functional safety across all product lines.
- Ensures work is completed in a timely manner within the standards established. Helps team members identify and communicate risk/reward tradeoffs.
- Help direct the quote process by providing technical leadership, to insure accurate and timely response to the customer.
- Translate customer specific needs and expectations into strategic leadership decisions and organizational objectives. Meet and exceed the customer needs thru a thorough understanding of those goals, strategies, and objectives.
- Engage in problem solving activities that have major customer impact, including risk assessments related to potential field issues.
- Plan for, prepare, and manage budgets for all development projects and capital expenses as well as departmental expenses.
- Interview, recruit, and hire the most competent individuals to build a cohesive team aligned with the core values and culture of the organization. Provide leadership and support to the team.
- Monitor productivity of all team members and conduct regular one-on-one coaching and support sessions with all direct reports. Manage all committees, groups and recommends changes where desirable.
- Track and report progress of overall department MBO’s throughout the year.
- Continually increase interface between functional engineering teams, purchasing teams, manufacturing teams, application groups and advanced product development groups locally and globally.
Qualifications for this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering or related field is required.
- Master’s degree in engineering is preferred.
- Minimum 8 – 10 years engineering experience in design and product management.
- Experience in automotive industry is preferred.
- Extensive understanding of Microsoft Office Tools.
- Exceptional leadership, customer relations, and management solving skills.
- Understand and practice the process of fact based problem solving and the tools associated with that process.
