Systems Administrator
Under the general supervision of the Technology Manager, the Systems Administrator is responsible for providing essential technical support for computer hardware and software applications for DWIHN employees and departments.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with engineering and other management teams to accept direction including:
- Coordinating and consulting with vendors for various services
- Accessing end clients’ needs for hardware, software, services, and support.
- Implementing processes, systems, tools, and applications.
- Working in a team to complete various IT related projects in a timely manner.
- Performing related duties as assigned
- Provides escalation (L2) support to other internal groups / departments such as ITSD as needed. This will include advanced trouble shooting, investigation of technical issues and development of solutions that can be implemented directly or delivered to other departments for implementation.
- Installs, configures, and documents hardware and software for end user services.
- Manages multi-functional printers (MFPs) for network printing, faxing, and scanning.
- Manages update / patching processes including:
- Firmware Updates
- Software update
- Operating system updates
- Desktop updates
- Network appliance updates
- Firewall updates
- Manages and administers Active Directory for both on-premises and Azure AD accounts.
- Monitors systems readiness status including:
- Anticipating potential problems and takes action to solve them before impacting users.
- Monitoring network alarms / server alarms
- Managing network switch bandwidth / utilization
- Managing virtualization environment status
- Managing site to site connectivity / status
- Managing wireless connectivity / status
- Performing trend analysis
- Overseeing access Controls.
- Providing audit support (reports, statistics, data).
- Manages Inventory including:
- New and existing hardware inventory management
- New and existing software inventory management
- License Management
- Providing Software Versioning and Control
- Assisting in managing hardware warranties and software licensing
- Testing software and reviewing application logs
- Manages and develops processes including:
- Documenting configurations / processes and controls
- Developing processes & documentation for training of other departments
- Developing daily / routine functions.
- Contributing to internal knowledge base with technical documentation, manuals, and IT Process training materials.
- Assisting with the new hire onboarding, packages, processes, and documentation
- Decommissioning packages and processes
- Performing Hardware staging
- Performing Operating system Imaging
- Performing Application Support
- Performing Application Configuration
- Overseeing Account remediation (offboarding).
- Developing documentation as needed
- Developing and implementing Process and Procedures/Runbooks/Documentation.
- Provides Data Protection (Backups) which includes:
- Ensuring the integrity of data storage and backup systems
- Configuration
- Remediation
- Manages Security including:
- Working with the direction from the Senior Solutions Architect / HIPPA security officer to perform Incident detection / manage response / remediation and perform the following functions:
- Monitoring security processes including network vulnerability scanning, EDR and MDR systems.
- Managing highly Privileged Accounts (HPA).
- Managing physical access
- Managing and maintaining building security and surveillance systems.
- Managing Email & Phishing
- Managing Cloud/Azure
- Managing VPN, maintaining and supporting remote connectivity for approved remote workers.
EDUCATION:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or a related field.
Desired Certifications:
- CCNE
- MSCE
- CompTIA server
- Nutanix / VMware certified
Experience listed below may be substituted on a year for year basis for required education.
EXPERIENCE:
At least four (4) years of experience in the following areas:
- Experience with multi-campus networking environment
- Experience monitoring security solutions including EDR & MDR systems.
- Network experience including:
- Microsoft Networking
- Active directory
- Meraki hardware
- Cisco hardware
- Virtualization experience including
- Hardware experience including:
- hardware configuration
- Internet/intranet configurations
- Email systems
- Telecommunications and data communications
- Hardware inventory management
- Software experience including:
- Computer operating systems
- Software deployment
- Software patching
- Software inventory management
- Help Desk Experience
Working Conditions
Work requires the employee to drive to different sites throughout Wayne County and the State of Michigan. Employees must have transportation available to travel to and from offices and for required offsite projects and site visits.
This is a hybrid position supporting a mix of onsite and remote functions.
