General Laborer – Heavy Industrial Manufacturing Plant

We are a 3rd and 4th generation family owned and managed precast concrete products manufacturer seeking a number of qualified individuals to fill available full-time positions as GENERAL LABORERS on first shift (generally 7 a.m. to ? p.m.). We have immediate openings in many departments of our Reinforced Concrete Products production operations in Wyoming, Michigan.
Job Description
The general laborer position is responsible for moving tools, equipment, product, materials, setting up and dismantling work areas, cleaning, taking measurements, assisting other workers, and other general labor activities with other duties as assigned in our factory environment. This work will be performed to the time standards and quality requirements of the Employer.
There are currently further skilled opportunities for advancement working with machinery and/equipment.
Applicant will serve a six month orientation period.
Job Qualifications and Requirements
- A. General Requirements

- Must possess basic math skills and be able to use measurement tools.
- Must be available for additional hours beyond 40 per week.

- Must have strong listening skills with the ability to listen to detailed instructions and then follow them as directed.
- For safety purposes, must have written and verbal English communication skills.

- Must maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Must comply with all company policies, procedures, and work rules.
Top candidates will possess strong leadership skills; have great attention to detail and have the ability to work either independently or as part of a crew, with the desire to advance quickly into currently open Crew Leader positions.
- B. Physical Requirements
Applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation, including, but not limited to:
- Ability to work in a physically demanding, fast paced industrial environment wearing hearing protection, vision protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed shoes, and any other required protective clothing or gear.
- Must be able to work indoors or outdoors in all weather and temperatures.
- Winter could be 4 - ten hour days while the construction season can be 12 hour days, five or six days per week. Weather rarely stops operations. Most jobs are inside the Plant most of the time.
- Repeated: standing, stooping, bending, squatting, climbing ladders or stairs, pushing or pulling, bending and twisting or reaching overhead. Lifting in excess of 80 pounds.
- Applicant must be able to withstand being on his or her feet all day and lifting heavy objects as a daily task.
- Must be able to assist other crew members with moving heavy items.
- Must have the ability to see details at both close range and at a distance.
- C. Education
- Minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent education certificate.
- D. Availability
- Must be able to work Monday through Saturday as dictated by our customers’ requirements.
- Must be able to start work within two weeks’ of offer date, assuming two weeks’ notice to applicant’s current Employer.
- E. Additional Requirements
- Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check for criminal convictions. A criminal record will not automatically prohibit employment.
- Must have consistent, reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must not use or sell illegal drugs or misuse or abuse prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications. Must be alcohol-free at all times during work hours.
- F. Work Experience
- Construction or heavy industrial manufacturing experience preferred, but will train the right candidates.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting rate per hour with ability to significantly increase rate after successful completion of six month orientation period.
