Overview
Element has an opening for an entry level Machine Shop Technician in our Wixom, MI lab. The Machine Shop Technician will be responsible for the precision cutting and fabrication of testing specimens and other related material. The position duties include sample preparation of materials for testing to automotive specifications and procedures. The role must maintain high quality work with attention to detail while ensuring personal productivity, and efficiency. Good communication skills are required, along with a strong work ethic, and positive attitude. The successful candidate will thrive in a high volume, fast paced environment.
Responsibilities
Use basic hand tools and power tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, drills, grinders, etc.
Use cutting equipment, lathes, mills, etc. to prepare specimens for testing as dictated in customer specifications
Operate a computer to input information into LIMS system
Maintain a clean work area, follow all specifications and perform quality inspections
Mechanically inclined with the ability to follow verbal instructions
Ability to read and comprehend directions at a high school level
Effective interpersonal and communications skills; verbal and written
High degree of accountability, reliability, and attention to detail
Have the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
Skills / Qualifications
HS diploma or GED certificate required; College or vocational school coursework or degree welcomed
0-3 years of experience in a machine shop environment
Familiarity with machining concepts, measuring instruments and dimensional concepts desired
Working knowledge of machine shop safety protocol a plus
Proficient computer skills (basic data entry and search skills)
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry a plus
Physical Demands:
Frequency of required physical force: Moderate
Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and > 50 lbs. on occasion
Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically
