Position Summary:
The Program Engineer is the key liaison between customers and Cooper Standard, specializing in the creation and maintenance of weatherstrip seals. This role focuses on designing seals that meet customers' functional, timing, and cost targets across various industries. The Program Engineer oversees all engineering activities related to weatherstrip seals, including design reviews, 3D data, drawings, prototypes, and testing, ensuring seamless communication and technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of weatherstrip seals for customers in diverse industries.
Apply best practices and internal/customer manufacturing processes specific to weatherstrip seals.
Release and manage engineering change requests.
Administer program development reviews, including gate and design reviews, with a focus on weatherstrip seal projects.
Develop and support the auto-quote process and validate weatherstrip seal products.
Ensure weatherstrip seal designs meet all functional SOW requirements.
Serve as the technical interface with customers, design teams, manufacturing plants, testing, sales, program management, purchasing, and suppliers.
Manage program design status, including timelines, for weatherstrip seal projects.
Assist in product VE/VA reviews.
Participate in technical troubleshooting and structured corrective actions.
Lead and support customer management meetings focused on weatherstrip seal projects.
Mentor associate program engineers.
Maintain program data, drawings, and other engineering documents in the Cooper Standard Product Life Cycle Management system.
Perform additional duties as required.
Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
5 years of engineering experience, with a focus on weatherstrip seals.
Strong problem-solving skills and technical judgment.
Ability to impact team quality and effectiveness, adhering to guidelines and policies.
Strong communication skills for explaining complex information.
Technical aptitude in engineering disciplines related to weatherstrip seals.
Knowledge of customer and internal APQP processes.
Experience in evaluating and resolving customer build and validation issues.
Proficiency in CAD software for 3D data manipulation.
Strong technical and mechanical aptitude, including DFMEA understanding.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Ability to create drawing layouts, detail parts, and apply GD&T.
Skilled in assessing design alternatives and prioritizing risks.
Willingness and ability to travel as necessary.
Work Environment/Work Conditions:
Professional office environment.
Proper personal protection equipment required on manufacturing floor.
Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations as needed.
Proper training on equipment to avoid injury.
