The Director of Advancement is responsible for building and cultivating relationships with donors, managing donor communication, and developing strategies to enhance donor engagement and experience. This position works closely with the CPO, as well as other members of the Foundation team, to establish annual targets and metrics to ensure strategic goals are met and successful fundraising campaigns achieved.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct daily advancement operations including but not limited to staff supervision and development activities, including but not limited to: day-to-day fundraising, advancement financial management, scholarship administration, emergency fund management, and Foundation Board support.
- Act as the liaison to the CPO and Major Gifts Officer, facilitating fundraising plans, and overall advancement operations.
- Responsible for a designated portfolio with a focus on cultivation of donors or prospects whose capacity can reach major gift level.
- Plan, execute and oversee donor appreciation events and exclusive donor experience, including the creation of marketing material for the event, management of guest lists and invitations, and overall production management.
- Collaborate with staff and key volunteers to execute and maximize the fundraising potential of events such as the Gala, Women’s Council luncheon, and other fundraising related events.
- Direct fundraising communications strategies for internal and external audiences, including content development for signature events, campaigns and annual and special appeals, and providing final approval for all marketing materials created.
- Responsible for the creation of sponsorship sales packages and materials. Collaborates with sponsor and donors to collect information for inclusion in marketing material, ensuring coordination and timely follow up through the process.
- Identify opportunities that showcase WCC Foundation and community connectivity; recommend, plan and implement donor activities that support the cause.
- Manage the Foundation’s comprehensive schedule of events and initiatives, ensuring alignment with the department’s objectives and goals.
- Develop and implement a dynamic and holistic strategic stewardship process that appropriately and consistently promotes interaction with and recognition of donors at all levels.
- Manage and staff Foundation Board Committees as assigned.
- Manage the GiveCampus website, working collaboratively with the Marketing on the creation and maintenance of website content.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Hours/Schedule: Work schedule will typically be day-shift hours (8am-5pm) on campus, with occasional nights or weekends as required.
This position is identified as Work from Home eligible one (1) day per week (Monday or Friday), based on determination that essential duties can 1) be performed outside of the worksite, 2) be performed without access to equipment, material, and files located on campus, 3) be performed without face to face contact with supervisor, students or staff, and 4) be performed remotely with an overall neutral effect on students, co-workers, and the organization as a whole.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, Philanthropy, or Marketing or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum of five years demonstrated experience in sales, marketing, philanthropy or advancement.
- Minimum of two years of demonstrated staff/operations management experience.
- Understanding of marketing and communications targeting donors.
- Must demonstrate the aptitude to represent WCC in a highly professional and effective manner
- Ability to work effectively as part of a dynamic team
- Must be a creative and strategic thinker with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, while maintaining consistent and transparent communication with a team and leadership
- Ability to establish positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers and donors
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to effectively articulate ideas and plans, and craft messaging quickly.
- Self-motivated and self-starting
- Ability to travel mostly within Washtenaw County and surrounding areas
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
