Laser North, Inc. seeks an experienced Controller to join their organization in Baraga, Michigan. We’re looking for someone who can lead our financial operations with expertise and enthusiasm. In this role, you’ll manage our accounting processes, analyze financial data, create insightful financial reports, and provide strategic recommendations to our senior management team.
As our Controller, you will play a key part in overseeing our financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all financial reporting and management. You’ll work closely with various departments, collaborating to continually improve our financial performance and support important decision-making.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Understand our products, services, industries, and customer demographics.
- Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and controls to minimize risk.
- Create and present financial reports as needed.
- Perform “hands-on” accounting tasks such as running weekly payroll and filing payroll tax returns in both Michigan and South Dakota, handling A/R, A/P, budgets, and the general ledger, and filing corporate tax returns and maintaining fixed asset listings.
- Manage cost accounting for manufacturing operations, including standard costing and inventory valuation.
- Collaborate to identify cost reduction and process improvement opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Assess and mitigate financial risks.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of respect and accountability.
- Travel to other plant locations as needed.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- 3 or more years in a controller or similar role preferred.
- Strong budgeting and operational optimization skills.
- Ability and willingness to spend time on the production floor, learn and understand manufacturing processes and products, and gain a fundamental understanding of business operations and production costs.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Experience with audits and tax compliance preferred.
- Team player with a positive ‘can do’ approach.
- Leadership abilities that embody strong relational, communication, organization and problem-solving skills.
- QuickBooks, Microsoft Office software, and ERP experience preferred.
