PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The purpose of this position is to train with custom products team members in order to gain knowledge of the environmental testing chamber industry, and to apply certain skills to build Thermotron’s custom chambers. This position is a training job and is designed to help acclimate individuals to custom test chamber manufacturing.
PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Able to learn by watching other custom products team members and doing hands on applications.
- Willing and able to provide ongoing communication with engineering, marketing, and purchasing to recommend and perform design changes.
- Able to document notes to other departments regarding the systems.
- Make presentations and procedure reports to customers, management, and other departments as required.
- Able to perform advanced tasks in either electrical, welding or refrigeration, either within the test chamber industry or other industries.
- Able to read blueprints and/or schematics to visualize how the job will go together.
Each apprentice will be training to gain knowledge about the test chamber industry in one or more of the following areas with the aid of the custom products team they are working with:
Cabinet:
- Able to obtain, review, and decipher print package.
- Able to analyze parts delivered from sheetmetal/weld to determine their appropriateness and those on backorder.
- Interpret schematics from print package and design mechanical system as necessary.
- Construct liner.
- Fit liner to framing.
- Locate parts and components, drill and tap for installation.
- Attach with screws, rivet, weld, and heli arc weld components and assemblies to framing.
- Insulate cabinet as required.
- Install doors, ports, and accessories.
- Make and install other mechanical assemblies as required.
- Fit and install baffling.
- Fit and install gasketing.
- Clean cabinet according to acid cleaning procedures.
WORK DEMANDS:
- Frequent lifting and moving of objects from 1 to 25 pounds. Occasional lifting and moving of objects 25-50 pounds.
- Able to work within confined areas.
- Continuous hand/eye movement consistent with the assembly of various parts.
- Able to perform body movements and physical coordination consistent with variety of assembly processes: bending, leading, sitting, standing, climbing, arm bending and extension, finger and hand control over small to medium size parts, push and pull exertion.
- Able to climb ladders and work at moderate heights to assemble products.
- Able to recognize and identify color coding on electronic parts and wiring.
- Able to read, decipher, and follow written instructions.
- Able to use a tape measure or ruler to determine proper lengths of material to be cut, using fractional and decimal based math.
- Able to use basic math skills and count accurately for determining proper sizes of material to be used, completing time cards and counting material and parts.
- Must be able to effectively communicate between other departments and customers.
- Must be able to follow in the creation of complex job schedules.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Willing and able to work extended workdays, flexible hours, and weekends to meet production demands.
