Delta College seeks a dynamic Director of Institutional Research and Data Analytics to lead the strategic use of data in driving institutional effectiveness and fostering student success.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Institutional Research oversees the data-informed culture of Delta College. By developing intentional and consistent approaches to collecting, analyzing and communicating data which enhances student success, completion and equity, as well as the staffing goals of the college, the Director supports the strategic vision of the college. Focusing heavily on developing a culture of data-informed decision-making, underpinned by data analytics and visualization, the Director will hone methods to communicate data and support opportunities for reaching the institutional Key Performance Indicators (KPIS).
Primary responsibilities include identifying, designing, conducting, interpreting, and communicating data that is aligned with institutional goals and for units as they align to those goals. Creating, maintaining and supporting processes for institutional planning and strategy, program development, program evaluation, evaluation of institutional effectiveness, and federal and state reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Collaborate with College leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive institutional research agenda aligned with Delta College’s strategic goals and objectives.
- Lead efforts to integrate data into decision-making processes at all levels of the institution. Communicate relevant data to support innovation, collaboration, and growth in support of our equitable enrollment, retention, and completion goals.
- Promote data literacy across the college community through training workshops, seminars, and resources. Develop and deliver training programs to enhance staff and faculty’s ability to interpret and use data effectively in their roles.
- Collect, compile and/or coordinate the timely collection of appropriate and accurate institutional data to fulfill state and federal reporting requirements such as the Integrated Postsecondary Educational Data System (IPEDS) and to respond to requests from other agencies, organizations, or individuals. Leverage state and federal reporting to inform our strategic plan.
- Lead efforts to disaggregate data by student demographics (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status) to identify and eliminate opportunity gaps. Analyze equity metrics and outcomes to inform targeted interventions and support initiatives aimed at promoting equity and inclusion.
- Serve as the primary data liaison with the State of Michigan – including data coordinator and campus key holder for Michigan Postsecondary Data Inventory (MPDI). Ensure timely and accurate submission of data.
- Identify, gather, analyze, and organize institutional data to provide accurate and timely information for efforts such as evaluating institutional effectiveness, supporting grants, developing marketing strategies, and supporting the strategic plan.
- Provide assistance to faculty and staff in identifying appropriate data collection to enhance student success.
- Work collaboratively with the Survey Specialist to facilitate the survey process, analyze the data, and communicate results.
- Coordinate or conduct other institutional research, including campus-wide initiatives, as necessary, to enhance the planning and decision-making processes of the College.
- Collaborate on initiatives such as the Data Cookbook, data governance, the College Dashboard, and facilitating environmental scanning. Serve on key institutional committees.
- Coordinate responses to ad hoc requests across campus and effectively communicate results.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Institutional Research, Statistics, Data Science, Education, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in institutional research, data analytics, or a related field, preferably in higher education
- Strong understanding of data literacy principles and best practices
- Experience with disaggregating data to identify and address opportunity gaps and promote equity
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Experiences Considered
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, including statistical software (e.g., SPSS,) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau)
- Preferred experience with assessment.
- Community College/Higher Education experience.
