The Lead Operator is responsible for training and overseeing the daily activities of operators, solving complex operational problems, and performing maintenance and operations activities at water and wastewater treatment facilities. Assumes responsibility for insuring the efficient and effective operation of water or wastewater treatment plants by: - a. Ensuring that prescribed schedules and operating policies and procedures are followed. - b. Making recommendations regarding improved operating systems and procedures. - c. Allocating work and providing technical direction, assistance, and training to other personnel. - Assists in ensuring the plant complies with all state and federal regulatory criteria and all safety policies and procedures - Communicates with client and customers related to routine technical aspects of operation - Determines action to be taken in the event of emergencies - Responds to customer inquiries - Provides safety training - Ensures that facilities are secure - Ensures that all appropriate records and reports are maintained and filed in a timely manner - Notifies supervisor of conditions that have the potential to create permit violations or negatively impact customer service - Collects samples and conducts field tests - Evaluates processes and make necessary changes - Operates and repairs various mechanical equipment - Coordinates maintenance activities at water and/or wastewater treatment facilities - Responds to call outs after hours and emergencies. - Understands and adheres to all company health and safety procedures as they relate to essential job functions. Required Skills
High school diploma or equivalent. The ability to successfully perform routine on-site maintenance and emergency repairs of treatment equipment is essential . Willing to work all shifts including: weekends, holidays, evenings, and 24-hour emergency on call. Valid driver's license, CDL preferred. Must be able to frequently lift 50 pounds. Must be able to load, unload, and move large equipment and tools. Continuous walking, stair climbing, and lifting. Required Experience
5+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience - Knowledge of process control techniques, maintenance procedures and safe practices. - The ability to successfully perform routine on-site maintenance and emergency repairs of treatment equipment is essential - Knowledge of regulatory rules is essential - Previous water or wastewater treatment experience. Previous supervision experience preferred. Valid driver's license, CDL preferred. A "level 3 or 4" water and/or wastewater license is required.
