The Director of Nursing is the most essential player in the clinical departments. The Director of Nursing plans, coordinates and manages the Nursing Department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of clinical services provided to residents.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises nursing care provided by the registered nurses
- Supervises Licensed Practical Nurses and others for whom they are administratively or professionally responsible.
- Oversees the interviewing, hiring and training processes of new employees.
- Assigns and delegates tasks within the clinical departments based on educational preparation, experience, knowledge and ability of the persons to whom the assignments are made.
- Provides feedback, supervision and oversight to clinical staff in regards to the tasks assigned.

Essential Functions:
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure all clinical areas are adequately managed.
- Utilizes a global perspective to link individual components of care to the overall values of an individual along the continuum of care.
- Participates as a key player in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement program of the facility through committee meetings, action plans, daily audits and quality rounds.
- Contributes to the needs of any and all clinical members in need of direction, education and assistance.
- Actively collaborates with the community at large to facilitate cooperation and mutually beneficial relationships within the facility and beyond.
- Attends educational conferences and meetings to ensure the best evidence-based practice is maintained within the facility.
- Is aware of and maintains compliance with state and federal regulations. Accepts and applies feedback under the direction of the Regional Clinical Coordinator and Administrator.
- Is distinctly driven by the basic nursing process of Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation, and the comprehensive care planning that springs from this thought process.
