UPPCO seeks a Distribution Performance Engineer/Analyst to join their Distribution team in Ishpeming, Michigan.
This position oversees power quality, outage management data, and reliability. Your responsibilities include ensuring outage management system (OMS) data accuracy, compliance with Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) standards, providing input for UPPCO’s Distribution Plan, and coordinating responses to performance and reliability requirements. Collaborating with various departments, you maintain accurate outage records to uphold UPPCO’s commitment to operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

WHAT YOU WILL DO.
Distribution Plan/Asset Management
- Provide data and support for UPPCO’s Distribution plan, ensuring compliance with MPSC orders.
- Coordinate with various departments for distribution maintenance planning and reliability improvements.
- Incorporate best engineering practices and explore modern technologies for future reliability efforts.
- Review distribution generation interconnection applications.
- Model potential impacts of electrification and energy efficiency plans.
Reliability Compliance & Records Management
- Analyze and report OMS data internally and externally.
- Conduct frequent reviews of outage data, coordinate investigations.
- Update OMS and GIS systems for accuracy.
- Investigate long duration and high-impact outages, manage customer outage records, and provide technical assistance during major storm events.
- Ensure conformity of outage data, provide load forecasts, and offer technical expertise for power quality investigations and AMI alarms.
- Support field investigations for unusual power quality events.
Regulatory Outage Reporting Administration
- Administer and manage outage reports for regulatory compliance and reliability reporting.
- Ensure timely filing of MPSC reports and compliance with monthly and annual reliability reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with departments for data collection and assist in tariff and rate case development.
- Develop tracking and reporting capabilities for storm events and reliability measures.
- Compile power quality investigations for MPSC reporting.
- Provide technical support for legislative issues as required.
Reliability Improvement Process, Training & Communication
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure accurate outage management processes and records.
- Assist in evaluating and procuring new technologies for reliability improvement and distribution system efficiency. Advocate for changes in distribution standards/operating procedures to support long-term planning.
- Provide training and support for implementing reliability improvement strategies.
- Support the development of automated metering infrastructure (AMI) reporting tools and integrate AMI data into engineering software (GIS, Cyme) for improved accuracy and efficiency.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred.
- Coursework with power emphasis a bonus.
- 3 or more years’ engineering work experience required.
- 1 or more years’ electric utility experience related to electric utility distribution systems required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze significant amounts of data and find inconsistencies.
- Strong knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP formulas preferred.
- Understanding of databases, database report writing, and code preferred.
