POSITION SUMMARY:
This individual is responsible for providing meals according to dietary guidelines and assisting with maintenance of the food service program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Prepares tasty, visibly attractive meals according to the menu and dietary guidelines and serves in an appetizing manner.
- Prepares the dining room for meals, assuring cleanliness and an appealing atmosphere.
- Attends to resident needs during mealtime, providing attentive, pleasant service.
- Assures resident safety by following policy and procedure for meal preparation, food handling and serving practices.
- Records intake of food for each resident.
- Takes and records food temperatures as required.
- Makes snacks and beverages available to residents as required by Michigan Home for Aged Licensing.
- Work with residents to accommodate individual food preferences when feasible.
- Prepare meal trays for residents when necessary and requested.
- Follows the weekly menu as posted.
- Record changes to the menu on the planned menu to show the menu as actually served.
- Record the meal census to include residents, personnel and visitors and record the kind and amount of food used for each meal.
- Works to keep the kitchen and dining area clean.
- Works to make sure that supplies are stocked and available for use.
- Works with resident care staff in clean up after meals, including dishwashing, sweeping floors, disinfecting counters and preparation areas.
- Prepares menu items in advance for the next day as needed.
- Reports food items that need to be ordered in advance to ensure availability of needed ingredients to the home manager.
- Stores food at temperatures that protects against spoilage.
- Labels all stored food with the date of preparation and identify the food item.
- Discards unused foods after 5 days of storage.
- Works as part of the team to assure resident safety in the event of disaster or emergency.
- Assists residents with activities of daily living as necessary and requested.
- Accommodates special diets as ordered by resident’s physician and outlined in the individual plan of service.
- Post a menu for each day on the menu board.
- Make sure all residents are accounted for at mealtimes.
- Any other duties assigned.
