TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR

The Rapid (Interurban Transit Partnership) serves the Grand Rapids community by providing fixed route bus service as well as a variety of additional services including mobility services for the elderly and disabled and car and van pooling programs. In 2013, The Rapid had the privilege of serving the community by providing ridership of 12.5 million and was honored to be recognized as “Outstanding Public Transportation System” by APTA. The Rapid is a progressive transportation system and home to Michigan’s first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
The Rapid isseeking a team-oriented and experienced professional with strong leadership and supervisory skills to assist in administering the daily operations of its transportation department as a Transportation Supervisor.
Under the guidance of the Transportation Manager, this position assists in supervision of a staff of approximately 275 bus operators. The candidate will perform daily dispatching and related activities, coordinate trip assignments; monitor radio communications and operator adherence for show up and reporting times. Will maintain records, time sheets, prepare written reports, and act as a liaison between management and operators concerning policies and procedures. The candidate will have strong investigative experience for accident/incident reporting and provide assistance to operators during accidents, with customer issues, disciplinary actions, and other issues.
Position Requirements:
The selected candidate will have an Associate’s degree; one (1) to two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. This position requires strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to learn computer software as necessary. Candidate must act independently within established operational policy guidelines, be able to successfully handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, and be an excellent communicator both written and orally. This position will require flexibility in schedule with the necessity of working some weekends, afternoons, and evenings.
The Rapid offers a competitive annual salary $43,180 to $64,750 and an excellent benefits plan including medical and dental coverage, vacation, sick and holiday pay, pension plan and much more.
