Job Description
This position functions as the Online Assessment Specialist serving the Office of Systems and Integration (OSI) for the Division of Accountability Services (DAS) and the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). This position is solely responsible for overseeing the design, development, documentation, integration, enhancement, management, and maintenance of the online assessment system programs and processes. A key component of this position is working with Michigan educators, online assessment vendors, and a multi-state consortium to successfully change the mode of statewide assessment from paper-based to online administration. As an indicator of size and complexity, approximately 2.3 million tests are administered to students in grades 3-8 for a typical fall assessment cycle. Since this function is a primary DAS asset, the online external system must be managed with business knowledge and expertise of DAS test records, which include a number of data elements from other MDE offices as well as other departments, such as CEPI and DTMB. It is this position’s sole responsibility to provide online secure access to current and historical demographic data, as well as provide assessment responses for a variety of item types and accountability information for all students, schools, and districts in the State of Michigan over time. As external student collection systems evolve and change, this staff must modify DAS’ online assessment programs and processes to ensure data integrity is maintained. When software is moved and/or upgraded, data interfaces need to be re-tested and revised to accommodate architecture revisions to the online system without impacting DAS online system processes.
