The Lumber Grader (Certified) will inspect and grade milled, rough-sawn, or finished lumber, including grading and certifying dimensional lumber.
This is a full-time 40+ hours/week that will be scheduled within our manufacturing hours of operation of Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position is eligible for benefits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Read and understand National Lumber Standard Board (NLSB) grading rules.
- Examine lumber on the table, moving belt, chain conveyor, or in racks for machine and natural defects such as knots, stains, decay, splits, faulty edges, pitch pockets, wormholes, and defective milling.
- Grade and mark lumber according to established industry standards to ensure specified dimensions are deemed appropriate to quality standards.
- Monitor and tally pieces of lumber, either by hand or by computerized tally system, according to grade and board footage.
- Determine cuts to be made to obtain the highest marketable value from material.
- Scale board footage and record results.
- Identify odd species or boards that need further processing and isolate them from the production area.
- Learn and understand the Sorter to include the control panels to operate the sorter, dry chain, north end infeed, landing table chains, lug loader chains, sorter speed, dropped packs, and software.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- NELMA Lumber Grader Certification is required.
- One year of related experience in applied grading.
- Experience with manufacturing software similar to computerized tally and sort system is highly preferred.
