The Checker Transportation Group offers transportation across the US and Canada. We are based out of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Checker Bus is the only UP owned and operated motorcoach, tour and bus company. Our drivers are highly qualified professionals. They are trained to both drive buses safely and efficiently as well as to provide the highest level of customer service to our clients.
Driver Training and Safety
We work to teach, supervise, monitor and maintain consistent standards by having regularly scheduled meetings where safety and/or customer service training is provided. Drivers are also sent to Michigan Center for Decision Driving (MCDD) where drivers spend the day to learn or review decision driving techniques both in the classroom and in actual hands-on activities using the facility's skid course. Drivers are also trained and certified in CPR. Successful candidates must then be able to pass a company paid medical physical, a pre-hire drug test, as well as a stringent behind-the-wheel training program on equipment and procedural operations before being assigned to duty.
All employees during their employment with Checker are then subject to random drug and alcohol testing, annual criminal record checks, and driving record reviews to make sure they continue to be the best qualified employee for the job.
August 2014:
Motorcoach Operators, multiple positions. Must have previous CDL experience, have a flexible schedule, and a great personality. Pay ranges $14-$18/hr including pay on your “idle-time”. Gone most weekends. Background check, physical, and DOT drug testing mandatory. Locations: Houghton, Marquette, Sault, & Escanaba
Small Chassis Bus Operators, multiple positions. We will provide training to the right candidates. Must have a flexible schedule, and a great personality. Pay Ranges $12.50-$15/hr. Background check, physical, and DOT drug testing mandatory. Locations: Marquette & Houghton
School Bus Drivers, part-time. Must have previous bus driving experience and be able to work with children. Currently hiring for 7a-9a & 3p-5p shifts. Background check, physical, and DOT drug testing mandatory. Locations: Marquette
Chauffer Drivers, multiple positions. Interested in driving as a future career? Looking for a part-time job to supplement your income? Start in our entry-level Chauffers positions. A Chauffer’s license is easier to obtain than a CDL and gives you the skills and experience to train for a future CDL position. Scheduling is based on a 24 hour schedule, 7 days per week.
