Position: Tool & Die Maker Trainee
Reports to: Team Leader—Prototype
Shift: 2nd shift (2pm-10pm) & 3rd shift (10pm-6am)
Pay: Starting hourly pay is $13, with ample room for overtime and growth as you progress through the CareerPaths program.

Employees work under the supervision of a skilled technician as they learn all aspects of this rewarding career. Through education in a Tooling & Manufacturing Technology Associate’s program and dedicated internal hands-on training, Pridgeon & Clay invests in your career and your success so that you can become a skilled technician within 7 years or less.

We’re looking for the following qualities from you:
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability and desire to enroll in a Tooling and Manufacturing Associate’s program within 6 months of starting work
- Experience using quality tools such as micrometers, calipers and gages
- A valid driver’s license (and the ability to obtain a chauffer’s license)
- Ability to pass written and practical tests to obtain P&C hi-lo and crane license
- Proven mechanical inclination and general math and manufacturing knowledge through standardized tests
- Computer literacy
- An excellent work record, including attendance
The following additional qualities aren’t required, but they will give you a head start:
- Previous experience operating manufacturing machinery
- Previous machine shop experience or shop classes completed
- Experience operating oxygen/acetylene torches
As a Tool & Die Maker Trainee, you’ll work with a mentor to gain valuable real-world experience. Some of the areas you’ll be trained in include:
Prototyping/Set-Up:
- Process material for prototype orders, including cutting coil stock and preparing blanks by getting it ready to run in the dies.
- Learn from skilled Tool & Die Makers how to perform deburring of prototype parts.
Maintenance/Cleaning/Delivery:
- Maintain R&D press room and machining areas making sure the machinery is kept clean.
- Pickup and deliver product to suppliers and customers, as needed.
- Organize and maintain efficiency of personal work area.
Quality/Safety:
- Use calipers, micrometers, height gages, sine blocks, etc.
- Safely use hilo and cranes to transport dies, including daily inspection sheets.
- Use designated personal protective equipment for the work environment.
- Identify potential safety issues and take appropriate action.
Teamwork:
- Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job.
- Consistently adhere to, and support, company policies and procedures, including ISO, TS 16949 and safety regulations.
- Provide necessary, accurate, and timely feedback of all pertinent information to co-workers and management.
- Effectively communicate with co-workers and management personnel to enhance teamwork and communication initiatives.
- Accept instructions and duties in a positive manner.
- Treat all co-workers with dignity and respect.
- Assist in maintaining P&C values (Integrity, People, Customers, Safety and Ownership) daily, through thoughts and actions.
