This position reports to the MBBP/CI Director Purchasing and is responsible for supporting the North American Purchasing Teams in meeting the global purchasing initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with the North American supply base leading and promoting continuous improvement workshops and methodology. Needs to be flexible, self motivated, work under pressure and be able to communicate at all levels, supporting the department in achieving targets and driving for the results. Extensive travel to various NAFTA and occasional global locations is required to support the roles and responsibilities. Responsibilities * Develop and ensure the implementation of Continuous Improvement plans with the MBBP suppliers to meet and exceed set supplier cost structure improvement roadmaps * Support regional purchasing teams in Supply Base Optimization (reduction) in coordination with purchasing strategies. * Visit new and current suppliers to determine risks, opportunities and complexity in order to define the correct approach or sourcing decision working with the Commodity Purchasing teams * Identify and encourage 'Innovation' ideas with suppliers for use by JCI (product, process, etc.) following and improving the MBBP 'Preferred Design Solution' process * Distressed Suppliers: Work with the regional operations teams with High Risk Suppliers to improve overall performance on non-quality related issues, hence reducing the costs to Johnson Controls. * Support the Risk Management and Purchasing teams with distressed or insolvent suppliers, reducing the cost impacts to the business by ensuring the execution of flawless transfers in a timely manner. * Drive overall process improvement roadmaps and action plans with high risk suppliers * Provide accurate feed back to the key decision makers to determine the best course of action, resource requirements and lead recovery plans. * Lead the process for analyzing, planning, and executing of business transfer Qualifications * Degree in engineering/manufacturing or equivalent qualification * Several years business experience to allow him/her to understand and contribute on involved projects spanning cross-functional teams * Continuous Improvement tools (Kanban, Kaizen,5S, Error Proofing, Problem Solving, Visual Management, TPM, Quick Changeover) * Manufacturing, Logistic, Quality Background/Knowledge * Business financial management (ability to understand the cost drivers for each product/process and identify Best Business Practice/benchmark performance) * Computer skills and SAP Basic Knowledge * Program Management - Ability to define, implement and hold accountable the full Johnson Controls and supplier teams for the Continuous Improvement actions * Certified Six Sigma Black Belt or on a track that will clearly lead to certification in the near future * Lean Manufacturing capability * Project management * Analytical and result-oriented thinkerJohnson Controls is a global multi-industrial company with core businesses in the automotive, building and energy storage industries.
