Summary:
The Lead Engineer is responsible for complete and complex engineering projects. Their perimeter includes all parts and products of a complete seat or structure. They plan and execute complete engineering design projects, from initial design concept through to production and release and post-production support, for source automotive seat products. They have responsibility as project leader for work done by designers, design engineers and project engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Formulates, recommends, and implements as phases of a project to complete it within budget and to meet customer determined project milestones and completion target dates
- Produces designs that are feasible and economical to produce in the manufacturing facilities and processes available
- Provides alternative design solutions, analyses, justifications and recommendations at the concept stage, facilitates selection of designs that achieve best possible trade-off of cost, timing, innovation, and performance.
- Contributes to manufacturing performance and customer service by assisting in the solution production or quality problems associates with the design.
- Proposes and implements VA/VE solutions
- Ensures that DV and PV engineering and test plans are completed at appropriate time
- Ensures that all appropriate tests are performed
- Ensures that product designs meet customer requirements, through direct consultation with customer technical personnel to determine their needs and wants
- Provides information about needs, wants and developments affecting company products and plans by maintaining regular, direct contact with customer technical personnel
- Assists in achievement of sale's targets through direct participation in customer presentation
- Other duties and special projects assigned
- Is responsible for searching the best practices and current designs and technologies available in the Group
- Supervises project engineers, design engineers and designers and ensures their work meet all requirements by giving them clear and complete directions regarding design concepts and parameters
- Makes sure that all BOM's are built and updated
- Is responsible for giving all information required to quote RFE and CR
- Works closely with Program Management to understand and achieve the financial target
Requirements:
- Bachelor Science Mechanical Engineering or applicable work experience
- Minimum five years experience in automotive seating including metal and trim development preferred, some project engineer experience preferred
- Knowledge of automotive mechanism, design and engineering
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Knowledge of automotive development tools and procedures preferred
- Good understanding of FEA principals preferred
- Good leadership/supervisory skills
- Good oral and written communications and presentation skills
- Good interpersonal skills
