This is skilled work in the planting, maintenance and removal of trees and shrubs performed under supervision. Assists with other duties seasonally including road salting, snow plowing, brush removal, compost operations, recycle/yard waste, pothole and asphalt and concrete street repairs.
There are five full-time Tree Trimmers reporting directly to the Right Of Way Foreman. There are two Tree Trimmer I designations. May be assigned to first, second or third shifts as needed; shift designations are made according to applicable contract articles.

Applications will be screened. Those qualified will be invited to participate in a performance test and an oral interview. Applicants must successfully pass each of the selection processes by a score of 70 percent or better to proceed in the process.
**For applicants without a CDL A ** If selected, you must obtain CDL-A within 2 months from starting the CDL training program provided by the City of Saginaw.
Major Duties
1. Works from an aerial lift to trim dead, broken, misshapen or undesired
branches.
2. Removes dead, diseased or dangerous trees.
3. Operates trucks, saws, brush chipper, stump remover, hi-ranger, and other mechanical equipment necessary in the performance of duties.
4. Plants trees and shrubbery and maintains newly planted trees and shrubbery.
5. May spray trees and shrubs in efforts to prevent disease or insect infestation.
6. Repairs and maintains handsaws, chain saws and other tools.
7. Counsels the public in efforts to prevent and combat tree diseases.
8. Assists with plowing and salting of roads in times of heavy snowfall.
9. Assists with street sweeping, crack filling, pothole patching and asphalt and concrete street repairs.

Job Requirements
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Minimum two years’ experience in tree trimming and tree removal in an urban environment.
3. Ability to operate saws, chippers, trucks with aerial lift booms, and related mechanical equipment.
4. Must be knowledgeable and proficient in rigging and roping.
4. Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Laborer or Equipment Operator; or equivalent work experience.
5. Willing to work at various heights of 30 feet or more from an aerial lift.
6. Willingness to work out of doors in all types of weather.
7. Ability to deal effectively with the public regarding information of a technical nature related to trees.
8. Must possess a valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Group A with air brakes and N endorsement within two (2) months of starting training.

1. Works at various heights in aerial boom.
2. Works out of doors in all types of weather.
3. Must be in good physical condition and able to lift at least 100 pounds.
4. Responds to storm emergencies during evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
4. Must be physically able to perform all duties of this classification.
5. Must be willing to work overtime on weekends, holidays, and on regular workdays for snow and ice control activities and other emergencies, and the operation of the convenience station.
