This position will provide clinical coverage for the entire Orthopedic department as needs arise. This may be in the subspecialties of hand, foot and ankle, total joint, sports medicine, trauma or the orthopedic urgent care.
This position could float to multiple locations, such as Holland, Grand Haven, Rockford and Grand Rapids.
This role is full-time, but the schedule is based on clinical needs. Schedules will be made at least 2 weeks in advance.
Job Summary:
Provides professional assistance and clinical support to health care professionals to ensure the delivery of quality, evidence based health care services. Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive health care programs for patients, clients, and athletes. The practice of athletic training includes injury/illness prevention and wellness protection, clinical assessment and impression, immediate and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and organizational and professional health and well-being of individuals under the direction of a physician. Travel may be required.
Essential Functions:
Triage patients as directed by physicians, and other providers.
Facilitates efficient and effective patient flow through the clinic utilizing professional ability and independent judgement.
Evaluates patients' physical condition, response and progress to treatment, and discusses with appropriate physician and/or physician extender.
Documents care consistent with documentation guidelines, and patient chargeable items/ services according to standards. Administers medication, and injections to patients in accordance with licensure and policy.
Interfaces with student athletes, parents, physicians, athletic trainers, and auxiliary medical personnel to analyze, interpret, or make deductions from varying facts and circumstances of athletes' condition status exercising discretion and independent judgement when appropriate.
Provides patient instruction in conjunction with physicians, and other providers. Develop and review patient home exercise programs.
Maintain clean and safe patient environment, work area, equipment, and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department/unit personnel.
Reads pertinent literature, attend meetings and educational classes, and participate in professional associations as appropriate.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field required (on or before January 1, 2022)
Master's degree or equivalent, completion of a CAATE approved athletic training education program required (on or after January 1, 2022)
2 years of relevant experience related and progressively more responsible experience in all aspects of athletic training required
Certified Athletic Trainer license through BOC (Board of Certification and Accreditation) upon hire
Athletic Trainer license through state of Michigan upon hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) preferred
Certified Performance Enhancement Specialization (PES) preferred
Certified Functional Movement Screen (FMS) preferred
Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP) preferred
Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) preferred
