Job Description: Sr. Project Development Engineer /Project Manager
This is a key position in the Power Generation Project Development Group which provides consulting services to a variety of independent power producers, utilities, developers, municipalities, institutions, and industrial clients located across the U.S. and abroad. This position includes leading and supporting a variety of project development efforts including feasibility studies, thermal and renewable generation plant performance assessments, economic lifecycle analyses, technology assessments, conceptual plant designs, due diligence assessments, site development, and development of design basis documentation. HDR provides these services across a wide range of technologies including thermal, solar, energy storage, wind, distributed generation, microgrids, and emerging markets such as hydrogen and carbon capture.
Responsibilities will vary depending on the skills and experience of the candidate but may include collaboration with and monitoring of internal resources; obtaining budgetary estimates and equipment performance estimates from equipment vendors; serving as a key point of interface with client's staff; developing and/or contributing to proposals; delegating to junior and mid-level staff; and other similar tasks. Responsibilities will also include support and /or participation in studies, technical bid evaluations, integrated resource plan development, contract negotiations, project justification to client management, and site visits (for data gathering, construction status observation, performance testing, etc.). The Sr. Project Development Engineer will take on the team lead /Project Manager role for consulting and Owner's Engineer engagements, and will be responsible for the coordination, quality, and timely completion of project deliverables.
Additional responsibilities include:
* Provide leadership and mentoring to junior engineers in the Project Development Group.
* Develop customer /client relations and be involved in marketing and proposal development efforts.
* Provide oversight, guidance, and quality checks of analysis and deliverables including asset performance, cost, and schedule modeling efforts.
* Conduct work sessions for conceptual designs or strategic planning in conjunction with HDR staff and clients.
* Coordinate and manage personal workload, commitments, and expectations through active communications.
* Track, coordinate, and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within agreed schedules and budgets.
* Be versatile to perform other duties as needed. This will require a willingness to take on multiple different project and internal team roles depending on the scope and size of the project and the other team members assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering; requires an engineering degree from an ABET accredited university and relevant power industry project experience.
* 10 years related or equivalent experience in similar project development, consulting, and project management role.
* Experience /exposure to a variety of power generation technologies including combustion turbines, simple cycle, combined cycle, engine generators, combined heat and power, repowering, solar, wind, geothermal, energy storage, and steam power cycles is required.
* Familiarity with Thermoflow suite of software (Thermoflex, GT Pro, Steam Pro) or similar power plant modeling software is a plus.
* Experience with use and application of wind and solar modeling software a plus.
* Candidate must have demonstrated leadership skills and a strong ability to maintain a high standard of quality in project deliverables grounded in solid engineering fundamentals.
* The candidate must be able to efficiently coordinate work, have excellent communication, presentation, and report writing skills, and be willing to actively contribute to the development of proposals and project deliverables.
* Candidate must be an entrepreneurial thinker with a willingness to evolve /operate in a "Seller-Doer" environment.
* Willingness to travel 10% - 15% of time.
* An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
* Willingness and ability to work from the HDR Ann Arbor office on a regular basis desired.
