Houghton Building Supply seeks a full-time Counter Sales Associate to join their team in Houghton, Michigan. All levels of experience encouraged to apply.
This position works with customers, answers telephone inquiries, and maintains products/merchandising displays and pricing. If you like working in a fast-paced environment and enjoy helping others, we want to hear from you!
WHAT WE OFFER.
- $16.00 – $18.00 per hour starting pay based on experience.

- Full-time position working Monday-Friday (9am–5pm) and rotating Saturdays (8am-1pm).
WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Meet and greet customers.
- Maintain a friendly and helpful manner at all times.
- Direct customers to the appropriate estimator or specialist for their needs.
- Become familiar with store products and their location.
- Complete sales, take payments, process returns; identify defective products.
- Complete small special orders or requests for non-stock items.
- Help with scheduling deliveries and equipment rental reservations.
- Assist with inventory receiving and cycle counting as needed.
- Maintain product pricing and displays on the retail floor; tag items on sale or promotion.
- Keep displays clean, organized, and attractive in appearance.
- Stock shelves and catalog displays as needed.
- Handle customer complaints in a positive and constructive manner.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- Previous experience working with building materials and supplies helpful.
- You are positive, enjoy helping others, and make customers feel valued.
- Someone detail-minded and organized—accuracy is second nature to you.
- You take customer complaints as an opportunity to improve.
- You are comfortable with computers and learning new software.
- You can get up to speed quickly and gain a solid understanding of most products within 1 year of hire.
- You have a great work ethic and show up on time.
- You are adaptable, require little to no supervision, and can jump in to help others when needed.
