Program Coordinator
Position Summary
The Visiting International Professional Program (VIPP), as part of the MSU International Studies and Programs (ISP), has been a leader in professional training, capacity building, and cultural exchange programs for over 30 years. VIPP works with ISP, MSU campus partners, U.S. and international organizations, and individual experts to capture international professional development opportunities by securing various grants and funding resources from U.S. government agencies, international organizations, and private entities. We design and implement diverse and transformative capacity-building programs in diverse fields for professionals and students from around the world. Our values are Quality, Community, and Impact. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about international exchange and enjoys a fast-paced and multitasking working environments. VIPP is an ideal place to practice entrepreneur mindset, problem solving skills and creativity. This particular position assumes primary responsibility of program design and delivery (virtual and in-person), from developing training schedule, researching resources, to coordinating all logistics and programming matters. Academic advising and support to participants are a key part of the job too. VIPP staff are expected to be in the office a minimum of three days per week.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities [80%]:
Pre-award program proposal development [20%]
- Support proposal development by researching academic, professional and cultural resources for international professional training, capacity building, and professional and academic exchange programs. Funding sources may include both U.S. and foreign governments as well as foundations and private organizations.
- Identify and secure MSU collaborative units and individual faculty members for proposals and programming.
- Research MSU and local and state-wide community-based resources for programming, including subject experts, organizations, government offices, NGOs, private companies, etc. Intentionally and actively identify and network with experts and resources via outreach activities.
Post-award program delivery & management [60%]
- Work with relevant faculty, funding agencies, and partner organizations to design program curriculum, activities, and schedules to meet sponsor’s requirements
- Deliver an orientation; coordinate and facilitate seminars, meetings, panel discussions and field trips;
- Arrange and coordinate programming logistics such as lodging, meals, flight, transportation, classroom facility, etc. with the support of student assistants; and prepare program handouts and relevant training materials.
- Set up and manage virtual meetings whenever needed; facilitate online discussions; and provide technical support
- Actively pursue new programming opportunities by working with participants, alumni and their sponsors. Support VIPP marketing and recruitment efforts in key regions. Maintain regular effective communication with alumni, MSU partners, and international partners, etc.
- Work closely with the Director and Fiscal Officer on budgets (budgets setting, expenditure review, and analysis) to ensure the financial viability of all programs
- Design and implement program evaluations for both sponsored and fee-for-service programs
- Provide effective management and administration of multiple programs
- Supervise and train student assistants for program support
- Provide support, as needed, with all programming in VIPP
Secondary Functions [20%]:
Advising [10%]
- Provide consultation to organization or individual on program offering, the application process, and funding requirement
- Provide comprehensive participant advising and support including program and course selection, academic resources, study and research skills, cultural and social activities, housing, health insurance, etc.
- Facilitating academic discussions through academic forums, guest lectures, study groups, reflections, and relevant field trips.
Functional Support [5%]
- Provide leadership in grant and other funding proposal development within VIPP.
Professional Development [5%]
- Continue developing professional skills by actively looking for opportunities; it may include taking relevant MSU offered training, taking online courses, attending relevant conferences necessary/appropriate/fiscally feasible
- Contribute to the field of international professional training and development, which may include producing scholarly publications/blogs, conducting outcomes assessment research, etc.

Required Degree
Masters
Minimum Requirements
- A master's degree in any field
- Three years of professional work experience in an international education setting
- Robust research ability in education and professional training
- Successful track record in grant proposal development for international capacity building and exchange
- Demonstrate experience in program design, coordination, budgeting, and evaluation
- Highly organized and motivated individual, and care for details in daily work
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and appreciation for cultural diversity, and ability to navigate cultural differences
- Strong academic writing skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in teaching and advising in a higher education setting
- Experience living, working or studying abroad
- Proficiency in a language other than English
