POSITION SUMMARY
Position is responsible for outreach, intake and assessment of clients for the Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program (HVRP) as well as income supports and barrier removal. The Workforce Development Specialist works closely with the Lead Case Manager and Job Developer to ensure that each participant has access to training and employment opportunities. The Workforce Development Specialist participates on the HVRP team to present regular job clubs. The Workforce Development Specialist provides training and support to new HVRP staff and collaborates with the Center for Working Families staff to provide CWF services to participants. The Workforce Development Specialist works with the HVRP team to develop and maintain the SWS internal and external veteran service provider network.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1 Provides intake, assessment and screening of potential HVRP participants.
2 Ensures that participants have the required documents and meet the eligibility requirements to enroll.
3 Maintain connections with participants post-employment to provide supports, referrals and retention activities.
4 Builds relationships with existing and potential community partners to conduct and enhance program outreach and recruitment and to access resources for participants.
5 Serve an integrative function self-awareness and image, values clarification, employer expectations, listening and communication skills, teamwork, and professionalism.
6 Identifies and provides service to employers to identify potential positions for veterans and connects participants to those positions.
7 Facilitate work readiness modules on topics: self-awareness and image, values clarification, employer expectations, listening and communication skills, conflict resolution, customer service, team work, and professionalism
8 Assist participants with accessing supportive services and other barrier removal activities.
9 Participate in administrative staff meetings, agency committees, and other projects as assigned.
10 Adhere to Southwest Solutions policies and procedures.
11 Adhere to Southwest Solutions code of ethics, and comply with local, state and federal laws
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent work experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Service field preferred
EXPERIENCE • Three or more years of experience working in programs providing social and/or employment services for at-risk populations
- Veteran experience preferred
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURES Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a private vehicle for day-to-day job performance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Familiarity with available Veteran community resources, services and partner organizations
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with employees, managers and the general public
- Demonstrated excellent customer service skills and professionalism toward internal and external customers
- Highly self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as work as part of a team
- Capacity to input data, organize and manage confidential documents and records
- Demonstrated ability to manage time, organize and prioritize work assignments
- Ability to maintain cultural awareness and sensitivity to differing attitudes, backgrounds and abilities
- Proficient in use the use of all MS Office applications, Office 365 and familiarity with other web-based solutions (Salesforce)
- Flexibility in days/hours available for scheduled work, including evenings and weekends
WORKING CONDITIONS • Services will be provided in the office or other appropriate community settings.
- Work may require vehicle travel in an urban community
- Must be able to tolerate varied weather conditions when traveling within the community
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Sitting, standing, walking, driving, repeated hand and wrist motions (for use of computers, phones, and other office equipment) are required.
- Vision must be suitable to read printed material and computer screen
- Hearing and speech must be sufficient to communicate in person and over the telephone
