Who We Want
The Senior Buyer is responsible for mentoring the Purchasing Department at our location on Thompson Road in Fenton, MI.
What You Will Be Doing
- Leads development and implementation of cost saving programs.
- Manages sourcing selection of material with best-in-class cost and quality.
- Negotiates long term agreements.
- Develops strategies to achieve current and long-term results.
- Has familiarity with commercial terms and total cost management concepts.
- Ability to work in a highly productive, constantly changing environment.
- Conducts necessary visits to supplier plants (<10%).
- Participates in Design Review discussions associated with design for manufacturability to ensure that fabrication and manufacturing of relevant details are consistent with design, cost, and delivery targets.
- Serves as mentor and coach to Purchasing Department employees. Exhibits leadership style and can lead lesser experienced individuals effectively. Applies supervisory skills when appropriate.
- Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding outsourced capabilities and avails knowledge to other team members such as those in Supply Chain to optimize procurement activities.
- Releases jobs to Machining and Fabrication, such that scheduling, and procurement are facilitated to meet build requirements – from cost to delivery date.
- Provides answers to technical questions related to manufacturability by applying knowledge and competencies associated with machining and fabrication. Interprets technical data, specifications, and other information to generate cost options and recommendations.
- Interacts with Design Engineering team and contribute to Design Reviews as defined within the Engineering and other technical design activities.
- Enter purchase orders into purchasing system(s) as needed and ensure proper documentation of supplier and purchasing related material, both paper and digital, is filed appropriately.
- Keep up to date of industry developments within all manufacturing groupings (assembly, machining, etc.) to be applied to all future sourcing/quoting decisions.
- Supports long term supplier strategy, cost management, and obtains the optimum combination of cost, quality, delivery and service from suppliers.
- Assists in expediting material when necessary.

What Requirements Are Needed
Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Equivalent experience considered.
Prefer three to five (3-5) of practical purchasing experience at a small to medium-sized business.
- Possess good negotiation skills - necessary when it comes to dealing with vendors.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, maintain records of the reviews, and complete inspection and performance documentation.
- Strong written communication and presentation skills.
- Self-disciplined and capable of identifying and completing critical tasks independently.
- Organizing meetings and training sessions as and when the need arises.
- Adaptable to change and display flexibility, ability to work within deadlines.
- Knowledge of MS Office, MS Visio, MS Project and other systems supporting the Company’s operational needs (e.g. ERP system).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint.
