Responsibilities
The candidate will serve in a leadership capacity commensurate with expertise and work with the current surgical director of heart/lung transplantation. The candidate must meet the UNOS requirements for this role, including sufficient lung transplant
procedures performed over two to five years and direct involvement in lung transplant patient care within the past two years.
In addition, the candidate will help lead the effort to establish an ECMO program in the Cardiothoracic Surgical ICU. Experience in heart transplantation
is highly desirable. The candidate must be board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (or equivalent) as well as have a MD degree or
equivalent. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The proposed starting date is flexible.
The program has a long history in the state of Michigan. The heart transplant program was started in 1985 with 356 transplants to date, and the lung
program was started in 1994 with over 160 transplants to date. The Henry Ford Transplant Institute, a collaborative service line, comprises heart, lung,
liver, kidney, pancreas, intestine and bone marrow transplant and is the most comprehensive program in the State of Michigan.
Physicians and surgeons are part of the Henry Ford Medical Group with nearly 1200 physician members. Henry Ford Hospital is a 900 bed academic teaching institution founded in 1915 and part of the Henry Ford Health System, one of the nation's largest integrated health care delivery systems.
Qualifications:
Must have completed US residency and appropriate fellowship and be American Board certified with proof of progressively more responsible job duties.
