Disher Design & Development is a full-service product development and engineering services firm in West Michigan. We are currently partnering with a West Michigan customer in their search for a Systems Engineer to join their team. This is a direct-hire position to join their team and not with Disher Design & Development.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:
- Research technologies new to the industry and the company, through web searches, seminars, classes, trade shows, and experimentation
- Some examples: SAE J1939 CAN, Wireless technology (Bluetooth, Zigbee), Non-contact Sensors, EMI/EMC, Robot vision system application, PCB prototyping techniques, etc.
- Apply potential technology to build products for the company
- Invent new product, and build proof-of-concept prototypes for demonstration
- Use technology on existing product to improve or fix issues
- Outline and realize plan to implement new technology
- Face of the company to customers and suppliers in technical aspect
- Product presentation at customer’s location/visit
- Technical representatives for discussion/field service
- Mentor and support fellow engineers in mechatronics engineering
- Annual internal company tech show
- Training in technical topics as necessary (e.g. in-field firmware reprogramming)
- Technical lead in current product improvement engineering efforts
- Technical reference to student projects
- Embedded system design from ground up
- Hardware selection (microcontrollers, resonators, sensors etc.)
- Software/firmware (C programming, communications protocols e.g. UART, I2C, SPI, CAN)
- Prototype building (schematic, PCB layout, SMT parts hand soldering, etc.)
- System installation on vehicle
- Conduct product testing, either perform personally or with aid of technician :
- Internal test lab (functional, temperature, acceleration/shock)
- External test lab (e.g. environmental test per ISO 16750)
- Engineering prototype field tests on customer’s site
- Building test equipment
- Engineering Analysis
- Secondary : Structural FEA, Tolerance analysis
- Primary : Field analysis (CFD, Magnetics)
- IP
- Invention disclosure forms (3 submitted so far)
- Patent review (for patentability of invention)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
- 7+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer.
- 7+ years of development experience with mechatronic products.
- Solid communication and facilitation skills to proactively bring various engineering disciplines together to ensure cross-functional alignment.
- Ability to help the customer understand and verbalize their true needs and to effectively communicate those customer needs within the organization.
- Mastery of Systems Engineering process knowledge (Incose or similar process).
- Mastery level functional safety knowledge of ISO-26262.
