FLEET MECHANIC (PT)
STARTING PAY: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour depending on certifications and experience
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK:
This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing a fleet of vehicles for an assigned area. Responsibilities may include determining repair needs; performing various repairs; and maintaining equipment. Under the supervision of the Superintendent or Supervisor, performs a variety of skilled repair and maintenance tasks on City equipment/vehicles and a wide variety of labor-intensive skills pertaining to street and utility system maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs inspections, checks, and tests to determine repair needs of engine, electrical, brake, heating, axle, suspension, and related components of trucks, automobiles, equipment, and engines.
- Repairs engine, electrical, brake, heating, axle, suspension, and related components of trucks, automobiles, equipment, and engines.
- Performs standard welding and cutting of push bars, mounts, and related vehicles and equipment.
- Maintains tools and equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Performs data entry, work orders, electronic diagnosis, and shop operation input.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
1 year of related experience; or, all required certification(s); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver's License Class B or Class A TIP at time of application (must obtain Class A CDL with Air Brake Endorsement within six months of hire)
- Applicant shall be certified in and maintain 1, 2, and 4 automotive areas and 3, 6 and 1 or 2 heavy truck areas by the State of Michigan and/or equivalent certification by the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)
- Fork Lift Operator Certification (must obtain within six months of hire)

Oral 100%
POST-EMPLOYMENT OFFER REQUIREMENTS:
- Successful completion of pre-employment Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screen prior to start date.
- Must submit to a criminal history check and driving record check.
