A TYPICAL DAY ON THE JOB
Employees in this position will provide planning, research, design, and permitting support for cities, townships, villages, and other municipal client divisions. Those in this position can expect to make construction site visits, attend meetings with other engineers, technicians, administration, and clients, and perform project research on topics such as standards and guidelines requirements.
Some tasks associated with this position include:
- Prepare engineering calculations and supporting analysis of alternatives
- Prepare design reports and construction plans using local and state standards
- Prepare construction plans using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS
- Review construction plans and specifications
- Prepare/assist with permit submittals
- Prepare preliminary project cost estimates and evaluate estimated qualities
- Assist with/review scope, budget, and schedule or new project tasks
- Assist Project Manager with general project management
- Attend client, public, project, and staff meetings including client progress, plan review, preconstruction, etc.
- Conduct on-site construction inspection and provide construction administration, as-needed
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience with general engineering principles and standards, be able to communicate efficiently, operate within a team working environment, and adapt quickly to new challenges that may arise.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering
- 1-5 years of experience in engineering work
- Skilled in AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS/ESRI Programs, and Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience on construction sites and field work, preferred
