Who We Want?
Miller Industries is currently seeking an Application Engineers – Mechanical and Electrical to work under the Flex Air division located at Copper Ave in Fenton, MI. Flex Air designs and builds custom Air Handlers, Modular Systems, Pre-Fabricated Chillers, Substations, and more. In summary, the Application Engineer will execute engineering/technical, sales, and customer service functions in support of the established goals of the company. They will collaborate with our engineering department to develop new applications and improve upon existing ones that will serve our clients and business well. This role will also help the sales team with estimating functions such as creating proposals, tracking the costs of a project, understanding customer specifications, and proposing a final budget for a project.
What You Will Be Doing
Engineering:
- Perform engineering tasks in estimating and designing air supply systems, air handing units, modular mechanical and electrical systems and their associated infrastructure.
- Utilize engineering principles to perform various tasks in the selling, quoting, engineering and manufacturing processes for our various product lines.
- Specify system components or select equipment to ensure they meet engineering design and performance specifications.
- Create full engineering packages for our various product lines.
- Review customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Suggest modifications to reduce cost or improve performance.
- Investigate equipment failures, and/or faulty operations or design, and make recommendations to fix the problem and update standards for the future.
- Support product testing and customer witness testing of our products.
Estimating:
- To utilize review project bid documents with internal estimating group to ensure accuracy and timeliness of quotes.
- Ensure that the policies and procedures of the company are carried out in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives, as set forth by Executive Management.
- Review cost estimate sheets prepared by the estimating team for accuracy and feasibility.
- Support of project management in the project schedule coordination when needed.
- Study and keep current with programs, manufacturing processes and technical developments in all industrial markets.
- Verify raw material and third-party pricing is up to date before issuing costing to Sales.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Production and Senior Management to cost all None-Core opportunities.
- Follow-up with "After Build" budgets to ensure accuracy of estimate through completion of project and apply past/previous project performance to current active estimates.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by Management.

What Requirements Are Needed
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited college or university. Equivalent experience considered.
Experience: At least three (3) years of work experience in a related position, preferably in the Manufacturing, Air Handling, HVAC, and Construction industries.
- Ability to support structural and mechanical designs and detailing of the products starting with the proposal up to the end-of-life phase.
- Knowledge of MS Office, Global Shop ERP, BOM, CAD, SolidWorks, and other systems supporting the Company's accounting needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly interact with our employees, customers and vendors.
- Strong ability to work simultaneously on a variety of projects and meet deadlines consistently with high quality output.
- Exemplary planning and organizational skills (multi-tasking and time-management).
- Self-disciplined and capable of identifying and completing critical tasks independently.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork and facilitation skills.
- Must possess excellent attention to detail.
- Must be comfortable with communicating with suppliers and our customers.
- Knowledge of the air handling, HVAC, manufacturing and construction industries and a willingness to learn.
